FAQs
What types of yoga do you teach?
1
Hatha Yoga - This is a great starting point if you are a complete beginner to yoga as it is the core foundation upon which all types of yoga stem from. In a typical class, we will start on the ground and gradually build up to standing sequences before coming back down to the ground again for a guided relaxation. In hatha yoga classes we will move more slowly, exploring traditional yoga poses which are held for multiple rounds of breath. I offer a weekly hatha class every Monday evening in Bangor (Abbey Studios).
Vinyasa Yoga - Vinyasa is a faster-paced style of yoga where we will often pair one breath to one movement, flowing dynamically through creative sequences and sun salutations. It is different to Hatha in that we will not hold poses for multiple breaths and we will move more quickly. I offer vinyasa yoga every Monday lunchtime in Belfast (The Den, Malone Road).
Restorative Yoga - Restorative yoga is generally a floor-based practice, where we use multiple types of yoga props to support the body allowing for deep rest and conscious relaxation. Great for beginners and experienced yogis alike, we will hold comfortable, supported poses for several minutes allowing the body to gradually release deep stress and tension. I offer restorative yoga monthly in Belfast (Maitri Studio).
I am also trained in Yoga for the Stages of Menopause, although I do not currently offer this as a specific class it is available as a 1:1 service.
How do I know which one is right for me?
2
If you are completely new to yoga, I would recommend starting with Hatha and trying out a few classes.
I would advise 1 year minimum of yoga experience before trying a Vinyasa class.
Restorative yoga is great for both beginners and experienced yogis but it can be challenging if you struggle to lie or sit still. It would also be beneficial if you have a little bit of experience with meditation before trying Restorative yoga.
If you still aren’t sure, drop me a message and we can have a chat to find the right fit for you :)
What do I need to bring to a yoga class?
3
Most yoga studios will have everything you need, but some people like to bring their own mat. If you’re thinking about buying a mat, reach out to me and I can give you some recommendations. The only studio where mats are not provided is Abbey Studios but I do have a limited number available to borrow if you need.
For hatha and vinyasa yoga - I would recommend bringing a bottle of water.
For restorative yoga - most props are provided but some people like to bring their own pillow or blanket!
What do I wear to a yoga class?

Anything you can move in comfortably!
You do not need to spend lots of money on fancy clothes to practice yoga. Just a pair of leggings, shorts or tracksuit bottoms, a tshirt / vest top, and a sports bra for women. I would recommend a more supportive sports bra for vinyasa.
It’s also a good idea to bring a light jumper or hoodie to pull on for relaxation at the start / end of class as the body temperature can drop when we are on the ground.
For restorative yoga, comfort is especially key so I would avoid anything too tight or with too many zips!
